Church Models for Workplace Ministry

January 20th, 2015

C.S. Lewis’ colleague, Dorothy Sayers,  wrote, “In nothing has the Church so lost Her hold on reality as in Her failure to understand and respect the secular vocation. She has allowed work and religion to become separate departments.”
While the secular-sacred divide still haunts many, some churches are bridging the gap between Sunday worship and Monday faith. Fueled by a robust biblical theology of work, church leaders are taking responsibility for equipping men and women to live their faith in the workplace and experience God's presence throughout the week. One notable example is Greg Thompson, Pastor of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Charlottesville VA who says, “The pastor’s work is to support the congregation in their labors, not the other way around.”
